Books, books, books

I've been working on making tons of books, all available on my Etsy Shop. I'm also experimenting with handmade paper, so hopefully I will be able to use the recycled handmade paper as the blank paper for my books in the future. So far its in the "can I get this to work" stages, but I will put some images up of the final result when it gets here.

amethyst cage!

Been messing around with wire cage jewelry, had fun making this amethyst pendant. I used silver craft wire of two different gauges, which is remarkably easy to work with.

soy experiments

So, I've been working on making soy candles, and while there are major differences from the paraffin wax, I like these much better. They require more dye, but the candles come out smooth and have a much creamier texture.

I'm enjoying playing with the dripping look, and decorating the finished candles.

New books are in the works as well!

waiting, waiting...and new books!

I ordered a bunch of soy wax a couple days ago, hoping that it works well for making the pillar candles that I've been making using paraffin wax. Soy was always the goal, but is somewhat more expensive to use.

In the break between making candles and watching for the UPS guy, I've been working on some books! I make blank, journal style books using recycled hardcover book covers, card stock, and waxed thread coptic-stitch style binding.

The raven cut-out motif is an original design by myself and is something that I find to be very peaceful and inspirational.

The Raven, according to wicca-spirituality.com:

"Ravens, and to a lesser degree Crows, are very magickal creatures.

Raven with her plumage as dark as the void between the stars, is a citizen of the afterworld. She travels between the worlds of the living and the dead.

Being native to both worlds, Raven naturally has great knowledge and Power to effect transformations.

Raven is associated as a Wicca symbol because of this power to move between the worlds, and create new realities as she chooses.
If Raven appears you are about to experience a change in consciousness. Raven is the messenger that carries all energy flows of ceremonial magic between the ceremony itself and the intended destination."

day in the kitchen

Today was spent diligently testing and re-testing new waxes, oils, and dyes I received this morning from Peak Candle supply in Colorado. I recently started making candles as they are one of my favorite things to buy myself and I'm always looking for beautiful objects to create on my own. Purple blackberry vanilla scented candles worked out great, but the black and red striped sage ones got broken up to become reclaimed wax in tomorrow's experiments. A day off from work always means it's art/craft time!

And a big cup of coffee to power the mind!
